“A distinctive limestone hill resembling skeletal remains, featuring an ancient chedi at the summit and panoramic views over Takhli town.”
Khao Phra Chedi or Wat Khao Chedi also known as Khao Kak Sak, is notable for its unusual limestone formation. The hill consists of sharp, uneven rocks with hollow spaces and no soil accumulation. The rocks are white to gray in color and resemble long-piled animal bones, which gave rise to its evocative local name.
Historical Remains
At the summit stands an ancient bell-shaped chedi on a square base with indented corners, believed to date back to the early Rattanakosin period. Although it was once damaged by illegal excavations, it has since been restored. Nearby are remains of an old ordination hall foundation and decorative roof tile fragments depicting praying deities, highlighting the site’s archaeological significance.
Cave and Natural Surroundings
There is one small, shallow cave within the hill. Inside, visitors can admire delicate stalactites and stalagmites that harmonize with the limestone landscape, creating a calm and natural atmosphere.
Faith and Local Belief
Wat Khao Chedi at the foot of the hill serves as a spiritual center for residents of Nong Mo village and the Takhli community. Locals regularly visit to make merit and participate in candlelight processions during important Buddhist holy days.
