“Pay respect to the replica of Luang Pho Sothon and Buddha images inside the natural cave, admire the beautiful golden teak ordination hall, and enjoy panoramic views of Mae Thot village from the hilltop pagoda.”

Wat Tham Sukkasem Sawan is a Vipassana forest temple located among limestone mountains and lush nature in Mae Thot, Thoen, Lampang. The temple offers a tranquil atmosphere, making it an ideal place for merit-making, meditation, and spiritual relaxation.

Unique Golden Teak Ordination Hall

One of the temple’s most distinctive features is its golden teak wood ordination hall, built with fine craftsmanship that reflects traditional northern Thai wooden architecture while blending harmoniously with the surrounding forest.

Natural Cave Sanctuary

Another highlight is the natural cave inside the mountain, where several Buddha images are enshrined. The cave contains beautiful stalactites and stalagmites formed naturally over time. The interior remains cool throughout the year, and visitors can walk through the cave to the other side. The cave walk takes about 10 minutes.

Hilltop Pagoda Viewpoint

Within the temple grounds, there is also a pagoda located on a hilltop, currently undergoing restoration. Visitors can walk up the stairs to pay respect and enjoy scenic views of Mae Thot village and the surrounding mountains.

The Story of Luang Pho Sothon Replica

The temple is also home to a replica of Luang Pho Sothon, which has a remarkable story. A group of devotees who had prayed to Luang Pho Sothon and achieved success in their endeavors later created this statue to offer to a temple in northern Thailand. Eventually, the statue was enshrined at Wat Tham Sukkasem Sawan, becoming a sacred object of faith for visitors seeking blessings.
