“A historic temple deeply connected to the origins of Na Bot Subdistrict, featuring a graceful Mara-victory Buddha image and serving as a key center for Buddhist learning and religious activities in Wang Chao District.”
Wat Na Bot belongs to the Maha Nikaya sect and is a temple with profound historical meaning reflected in its name. The term “Na Bot” is believed to originate from the past when this area was a vast rice field with the remains of an ancient ordination hall located in the middle of the fields. This landmark later became the name of the village and the temple, passed down through generations.
Regarding its official establishment, Wat Na Bot was formally recognized as a temple on January 9, 1984, and was granted royal Wisungkhamsima (ordination boundary) on January 4, 1986. The temple covers an area of over 8 rai, reflecting the steady growth and stability of Buddhism in Wang Chao District.
Inside the ordination hall enshrines the principal Buddha image in the Mara-victory posture, distinguished by its gentle and elegant features. This sacred image is deeply revered by Buddhists who come to pay respect and seek blessings. In addition, various temple buildings are decorated with wood carvings crafted by local artisans, showcasing traditional craftsmanship, local wisdom, and the collective faith of the community.
Wat Na Bot plays an important role beyond religious ceremonies. It serves as a center for Buddhist scripture studies (Phra Pariyatti Dhamma education) and is a focal point for community merit-making activities and traditional festivals, helping preserve the cultural identity and way of life of the Wang Chao people.
