“Stream of water cascading from a granite cliff over 20 meters high, breaking into a fine white mist that looks like a curtain of fog all year round.”

Tat Mok Waterfall has a long history of discovery and care as a significant part of Doi Suthep-Pui National Park. It serves as a vital headwater source originating from the Mae Raem stream. The name of the waterfall clearly reflects its history and physical characteristics: the word Tat is a local dialect term meaning cliff, and the word Moke (Mist) comes from the natural phenomenon where a massive volume of water falls from a great height_ and strikes the rocks below. This impact creates a fine, misty spray that scatters through the air, making the area look as if it is covered in white fog at all times.

The physical characteristic that serves as its unique landmark is that this waterfall has only one tier, yet it is very tall and elegant. The granite cliff is wide and steep, approximately 20 meters high. This differs from many multi-tiered waterfalls that cascade in smaller steps. Consequently, visitors can witness the grandeur of the water in a single, panoramic view. The surrounding forest is a lush dry evergreen forest, featuring large trees and boulders lined up at the base of the waterfall, which is a popular spot for tourists to sit and admire the beauty of the water curtain up close.

The most popular time to visit is from the late rainy season to the early winter (October - January). During this period, the water volume is sufficient to create the most beautiful misty curtain effect, and the air in the valley is pleasantly cool. However, this waterfall flows year-round, making it accessible in every season. During the summer, the water is clearer and calmer than usual, making it ideal for a peaceful and private relaxation spot compared to other famous waterfalls in Chiang Mai.

An unmissable activity upon arrival is the short nature trek from the parking lot, which is only 300 meters long. The path is flat and easy to walk, passing through a shady tree tunnel. Once at the waterfall, the main activity is photographing the falls from a front-facing angle, which clearly captures the white water curtain contrasting with the dark cliff. Visitors can also swim in the shallow, safe pools at the bottom. Furthermore, nature enthusiasts often spend time observing the various plants and mosses clinging to the damp rocks, which serve as an indicator of the forest's biological health.

For those visiting as a group or family, the most suitable activity is having a picnic on the stone courtyard in front of the waterfall to feel the cool spray carried by the wind. This is considered a simple yet effective form of "nature therapy." Tad Moke Waterfall truly meets the needs of those seeking beautiful nature photography, those wanting light exercise through hiking, and those looking for a quiet space for a weekend getaway.
