“A peaceful forest temple perfect for meditation, featuring simple architecture, lush natural shade, and a deep connection to the local faith of Phatthalung's community.”

Wat Pa Phayom is a prominent Buddhist temple under the Maha Nikaya order, located in Moo 2, Ban Pa Phayom, Pa Phayom Subdistrict, Phatthalung Province. Established on a fertile highland, this temple serves as the spiritual pillar for the northern Phatthalung community. Its historical roots are documented back to 1844, and it officially received the Wisungkhamsima (Royal Boundary) on May 6, 1913. Today, the temple holds a significant status as the 2nd Provincial Meditation Center of Phatthalung, under the leadership of Phrakhru Siriwan Khanarak (P.D. 5), the Abbot and District Dean of Pa Phayom, who has been instrumental in balancing religious education with local community development.

The temple’s architecture and sacred objects reflect a blend of traditional faith and functional simplicity. The centerpiece is the newly constructed Ubosot (ordination hall), a reinforced concrete structure measuring 6 by 12 meters, completed in 2022 to host essential monastic ceremonies. Another major structure is the Sala Kan Parian (sermon hall), built in 1974, which serves as a large communal space for religious gatherings. Inside, the temple enshrines highly revered sacred objects, including the statue of Phra Katyayana (Phra Sangkachai) and an ancient seated Laterite Buddha image, which attract pilgrims seeking blessings for prosperity and peace of mind.

Beyond its religious functions, Wat Pa Phayom has long been a center for local education and social welfare, notably through its pre-school program which has operated since 1980. The temple is also shrouded in local lore, specifically the legend of "Somphan Bua Ram" (the Blind Abbot), one of the four legendary master monks of Phatthalung known for their spiritual prowess. It is said that Somphan Bua Ram chose Wat Pa Phayom as his final residence, adhering to a life of strict asceticism until his passing. This legacy continues to inspire a atmosphere of profound devotion and rigorous meditation practice that visitors can still feel today.
