“A temple of great spiritual importance to the community, housing a large Reclining Buddha image inside a cave, and marking the main trail to hike up Khao Daeng for panoramic sea views.”

Khao Daeng Temple is a historically significant temple with deep spiritual importance to the local residents, particularly those living near the Khao Daeng canal mouth. The temple is situated at the foot of the mountain, which is part of Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park. The atmosphere within the temple grounds is exceptionally serene and shady, making it suitable for making merit and finding peace of mind. The temple has gained wider recognition as the starting point for the adventure to the famous Khao Daeng viewpoint. The temple structures are mostly simple, blending seamlessly with the natural surroundings and the surrounding limestone mountains.

The temple's unique attraction is a small cave that houses a large Reclining Buddha image. The cave provides a solemn and sacred feeling, characteristic of temples built near limestone mountains in Southern Thailand. Paying respects to the Buddha image in this cave is a key activity for visitors before they embark on the hike to the mountaintop, seeking blessings and good fortune. Furthermore, the temple area is where visitors can arrange longtail boat services to cross to Sam Phraya Beach or rent bicycles to cycle around the Khao Daeng village.

For adventure seekers, Wat Khao Daeng is the primary meeting point to begin the hike up Khao Daeng Summit, which offers one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the National Park. Although the ascent is steep and takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour, the reward is a breathtaking panorama of the Khao Daeng Canal, rice fields, the coastline, and the various islands in the Gulf of Thailand—a view that is immensely rewarding. The hike is best undertaken in the early morning or late afternoon to avoid the scorching sun.

The temple and its surrounding foothill area hold a special charm for photographers wishing to capture the beautiful temple architecture set against the backdrop of the red limestone mountains (as the name suggests). It also provides spiritual peace to its visitors while simultaneously catering to adventure and outdoor enthusiasts who wish to start their hiking trail from this point.

We invite you to visit Khao Daeng Temple to experience its sacredness and tranquility, drawing energy from this place before commencing the stunning journey up the magnificent Khao Daeng summit.
