“ A mosque with a large dome and tall minarets, featuring beautiful architecture, a spacious interior, and serene atmosphere for cultural visits   ”

Betong Central Mosque is one of the most important religious landmarks for the Muslim community in southern Thailand, playing significant roles in religion, society, and culture.

The mosque originally began as a small wooden structure used for religious practices. As the local Muslim population grew and the community became stronger, funding was raised collectively, along with government support during the era of Field Marshal Plaek Phibunsongkhram. This led to the construction of a larger, permanent mosque with greater stability.

This development reflects the strong foundation of “faith and community cooperation,” which remains central to the Muslim society in Betong.

Architecturally, the mosque blends traditional Islamic design with modern elements. Key features include a large central dome, tall minarets used for the call to prayer, and an open, spacious structure that accommodates many worshippers. Inside, the prayer hall is wide and unobstructed, with carpeted floors and proper alignment toward Mecca (Qibla), in accordance with Islamic principles.

The mosque serves as a center for religious activities such as the five daily prayers, Friday congregational prayers (Jumu’ah), special prayers during Ramadan like Tarawih, as well as religious lectures and Quranic education. It also plays an important role in passing down religious knowledge to younger generations.

Beyond its religious function, the mosque acts as a true community hub. It is used for community meetings, important events such as Islamic weddings, and as a place that strengthens social connections among residents.

In the multicultural context of Betong—where Thai, Muslim, and Chinese communities coexist—the mosque stands as a symbol of peaceful coexistence and cultural harmony.

How to Get There
  • By Car: Take Highway 410 (Yala–Betong) heading south, passing through Than To District. The route is mountainous with winding roads and takes approximately 2.5–3 hours. Once you reach Betong town, head to Sukayang Road—the mosque is located in the city center and can be easily recognized by its large dome and tall minarets.
