“Based on the strong faith of the communities along the Mekong River in the Naga, it is believed that at the second pillar of the Friendship Bridge over the Mekong River lies a Naga cave.”

Shrine of Father Ananta Naga King, or the Naga Cave Shrine in Mukdahan Province, is a sacred site along the Mekong River located beneath the Thai–Lao Friendship Bridge No. 2. It holds significant importance in both local beliefs and tourism. The area is part of Mukdahan’s “Three Realms of the Naga” concept, which explains the universe according to local Mekong River beliefs, dividing the Naga into the celestial realm, the earthly realm, and the underworld. The Shrine of Phor Pu Ananta Naga King represents the “earthly realm,” acting as a bridge between people and the sacred power of the Naga in local river-based beliefs. This area is deeply rooted in long-standing Mekong River beliefs, as local communities believe that the Mekong River is a pathway to the underworld and home to the Nagas, who protect and preserve the fertility and abundance of the region. Therefore, this shrine is not only a place of worship but also a cultural space reflecting shared spiritual beliefs of communities on both the Thai and Lao sides of the Mekong River.

Within the shrine area, there is a beautifully designed Naga cave replica decorated with intricate lighting and large Naga sculptures coiling around pillars and cave walls, creating a mystical and sacred atmosphere resembling the mythical underworld. Outside the cave, there is also a prominent large golden statue of Ananta Naga King along the Mekong River, which has become a key landmark where visitors come to pay respect and take photographs.People visiting this shrine often pray for career success, good fortune, stability in life, and smooth living conditions. It is believed that Ananta Naga King possesses sacred power that helps open life paths and protects devotees from obstacles, while also bringing blessings and prosperity.

In addition, the Shrine of Phor Pu Ananta Naga King is an important part of Mukdahan’s spiritual tourism route connected to the “Three Realms of the Naga” concept. Visitors can continue traveling to other sacred sites in the area to experience the beliefs and culture of the Mekong River region more fully. As a result, this place is not only a site for worship but also an important landmark reflecting the identity of Mukdahan Province in terms of faith, culture, and experiential tourism.
