“Isaraphab Pagoda stands alongside Phairi Phinat Fort on the summit of Laem Sing Hill, serving as a symbol of the restoration of independence for Chanthaburi and an exquisite viewpoint overlooking the estuary of Laem Sing.”

Isaraphab Pagoda is a significant historical monument proudly located on the summit of Khao Laem Sing, adjacent to Phairi Phinat Fort. The pagoda was constructed in 1904 (B.E. 2447) by Phraya Phiphit Sai Sunthornkan (the then Governor of Trat) in collaboration with the people of Chanthaburi. The objective was to commemorate a crucial event in Thai national history: the withdrawal of French troops from Chanthaburi and the return of the territory to Siam, following an 11-year occupation (from 1893 to 1904). The construction of this pagoda thus symbolized the joy and freedom regained by the city of Chanthaburi.

Architecturally, Isaraphab Pagoda is a bell-shaped stupa inspired by the royal-style chedi popular during the reigns of Rama IV and Rama V. The pagoda is constructed of brick and mortar, standing on a rectangular base (prathaksin) with converging staircases and surrounded by a balcony railing. Currently, both Isaraphab Pagoda and Phairi Phinat Fort are registered as ancient monuments by the Fine Arts Department, underscoring their invaluable historical and architectural significance.

We invite everyone to visit Isaraphab Pagoda to commemorate the acts of heroism and the spirit of patriotism, while simultaneously enjoying the spectacular scenery atop Laem Sing Hill.

How to Get There
  • Private Car: Travel along Highway 3 (Sukhumvit Road) towards Chanthaburi, then turn onto Highway 3147 towards Laem Sing. Isaraphab Pagoda is located on Khao Laem Sing, in the same area as Phairi Phinat Fort. The signs are clearly marked.

  • Boat: If traveling by boat through the Laem Sing estuary, the pagoda can be seen prominently on the hill from a distance.
