“Features a wooden boardwalk over 1 km long across the wetland Surrounded by dramatic limestone mountains One of the best birdwatching spots in the region, especially during winter migration Home to diverse wetland plants and wildlife Known as one of the most scenic viewpoints inside the national park”
The Bueng Bua Nature Study Center is located in the northern section of Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park and is well-known for its expansive scenery of wetlands and towering limestone cliffs. The peaceful atmosphere makes it an ideal destination for travelers who enjoy quiet nature exploration.
Highlights and Activities
The highlight of the site is the long wooden boardwalk stretching deep into the wetland, allowing visitors to walk above the water and enjoy close-up views of aquatic plants and waterbirds. Early morning and late afternoon offer the best lighting for photography with clear views of the mountains. Besides walking on the boardwalk, visitors can also opt for a long-tail boat ride (available for an additional fee) to view the lotus pond from a different perspective and access broader areas of the wetland.
Ecosystem and Wildlife
The wetland is an important habitat for various wildlife species, especially waterbirds and migratory birds that arrive during the winter months. It is a favorite location among birdwatching enthusiasts, where common species like the Purple Heron are often sighted. Several native wetland plants also thrive here, contributing significantly to the ecological richness of the area.
Landscape and Learning
Visitors can enjoy the impressive limestone mountains that frame the wetland, creating a dramatic and unique landscape. During the rainy season and early winter, the blooming lotus flowers make the scenery even more spectacular. The center also includes a small learning facility with information about local ecosystems, wildlife, and the natural significance of the wetland. Visitors can explore the exhibits before or after walking along the boardwalk for a deeper understanding of the area.
