“Relax in the Bamboo Pink House, enjoy a private view of lush green terraced rice fields, and learn about the sustainable agricultural way of life of the Pga k'nyau community.”

Baan Pakaamorn is a small village of the Pga k'nyau people (White Karen) located on Doi Inthanon. Its history is remarkable as a "model community" for Community-Based Tourism (CBT) for sustainability. Originally, the villagers were solely engaged in agriculture until they began developing ecotourism to generate income for the village's welfare fund. The story of Baan Pha Morn is not just about opening homes for tourists to stay; it is about sharing a way of life that has coexisted harmoniously with the forest for generations, with a focus on preserving the environment and traditional culture.

The reason Baan Pha Morn differs from other attractions on Doi Inthanon is its tranquility and limited number of guests. There are not many homestays lined up here; instead, there are only a few villas managed by the community tourism group, resulting in a high level of privacy. The signature accommodation is the Bamboo Pink House, a large bamboo villa situated on a hill, looking down onto the magnificent terraced rice fields that cascade down the slopes. The history of this area is also tied to the Royal Project, where villagers transitioned from monocropping to growing cold-climate crops and implementing terraced farming, which helps preserve the topsoil.

The general atmosphere of Baan Pha Morn is one of silence embraced by mountains and forests. Upon arrival, you will experience cool air year-round. During the rainy season (September–October), the rice fields turn a lush emerald green with mist floating past the villa windows. In winter (November–December), the fields transform into a shimmering golden color accompanied by a biting chill. The sound of water from small streams and birdsong are the only things that break the village's silence. Sitting together to enjoy local Pga k'nyau cuisine, which emphasizes fresh ingredients, is a simple yet powerful moment to recharge your life.

A must-do activity is walking to view the terraced rice fields and visiting cold-climate agricultural plots, such as chrysanthemum and strawberry farms. You can also try roasting and sipping authentic Baan Pha Morn Arabica coffee, which has a unique local flavor. Additionally, there are short nature trails around the village that take you to see the Lanna-Karen way of life, including traditional weaving and daily routines that still adhere to ancient customs. Baan Pha Morn is not for those seeking modern entertainment, but for those who wish to absorb the beauty of nature and learn the value of a sufficient lifestyle.

The impression of Baan Pha Morn lies in the sincerity of the villagers and the experience of staying in architecture that blends with nature. Every corner of this village reflects the history of the struggle to preserve the headwater forests and community development toward self-reliance. It is a place where silence and the beauty of terraced fields unite to provide a new definition of relaxation that reaches the true essence of nature most deeply in the Doi Inthanon area

How to Get There

Sedans can enter but must be driven with caution.

  • Public Transport: Take a yellow songthaew (Chiang Mai–Chom Thong line) to Wat Phra That Si Chom Thong, then transfer to a Chom Thong–Doi Inthanon songthaew. Get off at KM 23 and contact the village for a pickup service (advance appointment required).
