“Phuket’s largest waterfall, located in a lush rainforest. Home to the Gibbon Rehabilitation Project, it offers year-round water, scenic nature trails, and serene tropical relaxation.”

Bang Pae Waterfall is located within the Khao Phra Thaeo Wildlife Sanctuary, considered one of the last remaining pristine rainforests on Phuket Island. This area plays a crucial role as a natural water source for the island and is home to a diverse array of wildlife, including gibbons, monkeys, wild boars, and various bird species, as well as dense tropical vegetation along the mountainside. The overall atmosphere is humid, cool, and tranquil, a stark contrast to Phuket's coastal tourist areas, making this waterfall an ideal destination for those seeking a truly immersive nature experience.

Bang Pae Waterfall is approximately 10 meters high, cascading down rock formations into a pool below. While not a large internationally recognized waterfall, it is considered one of the largest in Phuket. Its beauty is most evident during the rainy season, from May to November, when the water volume is particularly high and the flow is strong. During the dry season, the water level decreases but still flows, making it accessible almost year-round. The natural pool at the bottom is suitable for swimming during certain periods, especially when the water flow is not too strong, but caution is advised due to the slippery rock surface.

The hiking trail to the waterfall is approximately 600–700 meters long, passing through a highly biodiverse rainforest. Visitors can experience tropical vegetation such as large trees, vines, and bamboo, as well as the sounds of wildlife still found in their natural habitat. This trail is suitable for both casual tourists and nature enthusiasts, as it is easy to walk and shaded throughout. Additionally, the Khao Phra Thaew area offers a longer hiking trail connecting Bang Pae Waterfall and Ton Sai Waterfall, which takes several hours and is suitable for experienced hikers.

Another significant highlight of Bang Pae Waterfall is the location of the Gibbon Rehabilitation Project, an internationally renowned gibbon conservation project. This project rescues and rehabilitates injured or pet gibbons before releasing them back into the wild in protected areas. Visitors can observe the project in an educational setting, maintaining social distancing to avoid disturbing the wildlife. This project plays a crucial role in ecosystem restoration and raising awareness about wildlife conservation in Thailand.

Beyond its natural beauty, Bang Pae Waterfall is a popular relaxation spot for locals who enjoy walks, relaxation, and picnics amidst the lush natural surroundings. Basic amenities such as parking, small restaurants, and a visitor information center are available near the entrance, making it convenient to visit even with minimal equipment. However, the true charm of the area lies in its tranquility and undeveloped natural beauty, reflecting a clear balance between tourism and conservation.
