Hat Hong is located along the Mekong River in Khong Chiam District, Ubon Ratchathani Province. This has made Hat Hong a popular natural viewpoint for both Thai and international tourists. The area is also used for traditional water-based ceremonies, such as Loy Krathong, and certain Buddhist rituals along the Mekong. The name “Hat Hong” comes from a legend about flocks of swans that once rested in this area, symbolizing peace and natural beauty.

The beach is located in the southern riverside area of Khong Chiam and stretches approximately 1–2 kilometers. The surrounding area consists of native forest and shallow wetlands connected to the Mekong River. The surroundings feature various trees and shrubs, including bamboo, Tengk, Rang, Dalbergia, and colorful wildflowers. The riverside is home to various water birds, such as gulls, storks, and swallows, as well as small animals like squirrels, monkeys, and local freshwater species. The Mekong River is an important freshwater resource, supporting many fish species that local villagers catch for consumption and income. The white sandy beach and scattered rocks along the river help reduce erosion while creating scenic natural views.
