Tamozawa Imperial Villa is located in Nikko and is one of the largest wooden structures in Japan. It was established in 1899 as a retreat for Emperor Taisho. The site holds great historical significance as it systematically incorporates architectural styles from three different periods: Edo, Meiji, and Taisho.

The main feature of the villa is the seamless blend of traditional Japanese architecture and Western influences. Inside, there are over 100 rooms exquisitely decorated with high-value sliding door paintings (Fusuma) and intricate lacquerwork (Urushi). The room layouts emphasize a harmonious connection between the interior living spaces and the views of the exterior garden.

The traditional Japanese garden surrounding the building is a must-see attraction. It is designed to offer unique beauty in every season, featuring a 400-year-old weeping cherry tree and natural streams flowing through the grounds. The atmosphere is peaceful and reflects the refined taste of the Japanese Imperial Family.

• By Bus: From JR Nikko or Tobu Nikko Station, take the Tobu Bus and get off at the Tamozawa Imperial Villa Memorial Park stop approximately 10 minutes.

• By Foot: A 15-minute walk from the Shinkyo Bridge.

• Best Seasons: Mid-April (cherry blossoms) and early November (autumn foliage) are the most beautiful times to visit.

• Attire: Visitors must remove their shoes before entering. It is recommended to wear thick socks for comfort and warmth.

• Photography: Flash photography is prohibited in certain areas to protect the ancient artifacts.

• Preparation: There are no full-service restaurants inside the villa grounds. It is recommended to eat in central Nikko before visiting.
