Waghor Aquarium The aquarium building was constructed between 1999 and 2001 and officially opened in 2002, covering approximately 3,600 square meters of exhibition space.
Exhibitions: Inside, there are extensive exhibitions and display tanks featuring species from various aquatic environments, including freshwater, brackish, and marine ecosystems. The displays are designed to present the species in naturalistic settings (Naturalistic Ecosystems), offering visitors a close look at the aquatic life cycles and behaviors.
Key Features: Beyond general exhibition tanks, the aquarium's major highlights include a large Tunnel Tank that allows visitors to walk through and experience the sensation of being surrounded by the ocean, a Big Tank housing large and rare marine species, and colorful displays of coral reef inhabitants. Educational materials are integrated through didactic exhibitions and modern multimedia displays to enhance visitor knowledge and engagement.
Purpose and Education: Visitors can gain profound knowledge about various aquatic ecosystems and the critical importance of marine conservation. The aquarium operates as an integral component of the King Mongkut Science Park at Wa Ko, officially established to serve as a scientific learning hub for youth, tourists, and the general public, with a particular focus on promoting marine science literacy.
How to Get There
- Drive along Phetkasem Road into Prachuap Khiri Khan city. From the city intersection, drive south about 16 km, then turn left into Ban Wa Tone. Drive about 3.5 km, cross the railway, and enter the science park where the aquarium is located.
