“Admire the heart-shaped Khao Thepphitak from the middle of the bridge, walk across a classic cable suspension bridge over clear Khlong Phasaeng, and access the famous century-old durian orchards of the community.”
Khao Phang Suspension Bridge, also known as Khao Thepphitak Bridge, is a must-visit landmark in Ban Ta Khun District, Surat Thani. Located beside and behind Wat Khao Phang, just a short distance before the entrance to Ratchaprapha Dam (Cheow Lan Lake), it serves as a popular stop for travelers heading into the area.
The bridge was built in 2003 (B.E. 2546) to facilitate local villagers living on both sides of Khlong Phasaeng. It has long been used for daily transportation and for carrying agricultural products, especially from nearby fruit orchards, reflecting the simple lifestyle closely connected to nature.
Structurally, it is a large cable suspension bridge anchored to concrete pillars, with a steel framework and wooden plank flooring. The bridge stretches approximately 120 meters across Khlong Phasaeng. As you walk, you may feel a gentle sway from the wind and footsteps, adding a subtle sense of excitement to the experience.
The highlight of this location is the view from the middle of the bridge, where you can clearly see Khao Thepphitak, the famous heart-shaped mountain. Its naturally curved peaks form a heart-like silhouette, making it one of the most unique and romantic photo spots in Surat Thani.
Surrounding the bridge is lush greenery along both sides of the canal, with clear flowing water and a tranquil atmosphere. The best time to visit is during the early morning and late afternoon, when the weather is cool and comfortable. On some days, light mist drifts around the mountain, enhancing the scenic beauty.
Crossing to the other side, visitors can explore local fruit orchards, especially the well-known Khlong Saeng durian orchards, some over a hundred years old. Seasonal fruits are also available, offering a chance to taste fresh produce directly from the source.
With its combination of scenic beauty, cultural charm, and unique geography, Khao Phang Suspension Bridge is more than just a crossing—it is a viewpoint, photography hotspot, and gateway to local community life that should not be missed when visiting Cheow Lan Lake.
