“Ko Kahok is one of Chumphon’s best snorkeling sites, featuring vibrant and healthy coral reefs — especially brain corals and colorful sea anemones.”
Ko Kahok is one of the most distinctive islands in the Ngam Islands group and a must-visit site for diving enthusiasts visiting Chumphon. Known for its stunning underwater biodiversity, the island offers some of the most pristine coral reefs in the Gulf of Thailand.
The island itself has no beaches but is composed of rugged rocks and steep limestone cliffs that rise dramatically from the sea. From afar, its silhouette resembles a human skull — the origin of its name “Ko Kahok” or “Skull Island.”
Beneath the surface, the underwater world around the island is teeming with life. You’ll find thick formations of brain coral (Porites), soft coral gardens, and colorful sea anemones stretching across the seabed. Schools of yellowtail fusiliers, groupers, parrotfish, butterflyfish, and barracudas can often be seen, and lucky divers may encounter large shoals of batfish or trevallies.
The island’s reef areas are perfect for snorkeling and shallow diving. However, since the current can be quite strong at times, divers are advised to exercise caution and stay within designated snorkeling zones, where ropes are available for safety.
Ko Kahok is typically included in the popular “Four Islands One-Day Snorkeling Tour” in Chumphon, which also covers Ko Ngam Noi, Ko Ngam Yai, and Ko Talu. Trips usually depart from Hat Sai Ri Beach or Pak Nam Chumphon Pier, with a journey time of about 20–30 minutes by speedboat or longtail boat.
Although there are no facilities or beaches on the island itself, its unspoiled nature and vibrant marine life make it one of Chumphon’s most memorable diving destinations — a paradise for snorkelers seeking tranquility beneath the waves.
