“Beautiful Thai Lue viharn, traditional Lanna art, and ancient architecture and murals”
Wat Don Mun Thai Lue Viharn is a historic temple in Nan that reflects the unique identity of the Thai Lue people. Inside the viharn, visitors can see stunning Thai Lue architecture and local mural paintings, as well as an ancient pulpit and glass staircases that are rare to find.
The Thai Lue viharn has a low roof with a front gable decorated in a floral motif. Inside, the principal Buddha image is in the Mara Vichaya posture, with murals depicting the Buddha’s life and Nemiraja Jataka on the walls. The columns are decorated with gold patterns on a red background, including floral motifs, cone-shaped patterns, and unique foliage designs.
Local villagers actively preserve the temple and Thai Lue culture, making it a recognized cultural tourism site in Northern Thailand.
