“A world-renowned monument of immense love and exquisite architecture, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New7Wonders of the World. It attracts 7-8 million tourists annually.”

The Taj Mahal, literally meaning "Crown Palace," is in fact an ivory-white marble mausoleum built from profound love. It stands as one of the most beautiful architectural works in the world. This monument was commissioned by Emperor Shah Jahan of the Mughal Empire, who held unwavering affection for his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal (a Persian princess).

The legendary love story began when Prince Khurram, who would later become Emperor Shah Jahan, met Arjumand Banu Begum, the daughter of a minister, at the age of 14. He was captivated by her beauty and fell deeply in love. Prince Khurram then spent 10,000 rupees to buy a diamond and informed his father of his desire to marry the minister's daughter. The marriage ceremony took place five years later, in 1612 AD. From that day forward, the two were never apart.

After Emperor Shah Jahan ascended to the throne in 1628 AD, he placed his complete trust in Arjumand Banu Begum and bestowed upon her the grand title of Mumtaz Mahal, meaning "Jewel of the Palace." His queen accompanied him everywhere, even on the battlefield, and advised him on matters of state. The Emperor deeply appreciated his queen's devotion.

However, in 1631 AD, Empress Mumtaz Mahal passed away suddenly after giving birth to their 14th child. Her demise plunged Emperor Shah Jahan into profound sorrow that lasted for two decades. Most of the royal treasury was spent on building the grand monument of their love, the Taj Mahal, as we know it today.

In his later years, Emperor Shah Jahan was imprisoned by his own son. The main reason was his son's belief that his father had spent an exorbitant amount of the royal treasury not only on building the Taj Mahal but also on planning to construct another black marble Taj Mahal for himself. He remained confined for 8 years until his death in 1666 AD. Legend has it that on the last day of his life, he spent the entire day gazing at a piece of mirror reflecting the image of the Taj Mahal and passed away with the mirror shard in his hand. He was buried in the Taj Mahal, alongside his queen, whom he never forgot.

The Taj Mahal was designated a masterpiece of World Heritage in 1983 and is considered the "jewel of Muslim art in India," showcasing the historical wealth and prosperity of India. It attracts 7-8 million tourists annually. Furthermore, the Taj Mahal was chosen as one of the New7Wonders of the World in 2007.
