“A white two-story building on the highest in town, offering both cultural exhibitions and a 360-degree city viewpoint”
Betong City Museum serves as a comprehensive cultural and historical center that chronicles the evolution of Betong from a dense forest frontier into a thriving tin-mining settlement and eventually a key southern border town
The ground floor focuses on the roots and multicultural identity of Betong, where Thai, Chinese, and Muslim communities have coexisted for generations. Exhibits include authentic artifacts such as tin-mining equipment, antique Chinese furniture, traditional costumes, and rare archival photographs that illustrate the town’s transformation over time
The second floor highlights Betong’s development in terms of economy, infrastructure, and identity, featuring in-depth information about major landmarks such as the Mongkhonrit Tunnel—Thailand’s first mountain tunnel—and the giant mailbox near the Betong Clock Tower, which historically functioned as a public broadcasting point for the community
One of the museum’s key highlights is its upper terrace, offering a panoramic 360-degree view of Betong. Visitors can clearly see the town’s layout surrounded by mountains, rows of Sino-Portuguese-style buildings, and the signature mist that blankets the area throughout the year, reinforcing Betong’s identity as the “City in the Mist”
