The Highland People Discovery Museum, formerly known as the Hill Tribe Museum, is located within Lanna Garden R.9 along Chotana Road. It is managed by the Department of Social Development and Welfare, Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare, and serves as a central hub for preserving cultural artifacts and knowledge of 10 highland ethnic groups. The museum aims to educate visitors and future generations amidst social changes.
Main Exhibits:
The museum is divided into two main sections:

Indoor section (Red Hall): Features a small cinema and exhibits of artifacts, costumes, and life-size models representing the lifestyles of hill tribes.

Outdoor section (Open-Air Museum): Displays life-size replicas of tribal villages, everyday artifacts, and educational exhibits on ecological systems.
Tribes on Display:
The 10 main tribes include Karen (Pga-Knyaw), Hmong, Yao (Mien), Lisu, Akha, Lahu, Lua, Thin, Khamu, and Malabri (Yellow Leaf), along with 2 sub-groups (Dara-ang and Pa-dong).
How to Get There
Red Songthaew (local shuttle truck):
- Take a red songthaew from anywhere in the city and tell the driver "to the Hill Tribe Museum on Chotana Road".
Private car/rental:
- Drive from Chang Phueak Gate (northern moat area) along Chotana Road (Highway 107) toward Mae Rim. The museum is on the left inside Lanna Garden R.9 with convenient parking.
