“A real warship on land by the sea. You can walk around the vessel; it's a museum with an open-air deck where you can enjoy views of the estuary and the mangrove forest.”

HTMS Prasae Memorial (HTMS Prasae Memorial) is a historic Royal Thai Navy warship that played an important role in the Korean War under the United Nations Forces. Thailand contributed naval forces as part of the “Naval Task Group under the United Nations Command,” supporting peacekeeping and naval operations on the Korean Peninsula, marking an important chapter in Thai naval history on the international stage.

The HTMS Prasae (2nd vessel) is a Patrol Frigate (PF-44) transferred from the United States after the original HTMS Prasae was lost due to grounding in North Korean waters in January 1951. As a result, Thailand negotiated with the United States and acquired two frigates: USS Glendale (PF-36) and USS Gallup (PF-47) for a total price of 861,946 USD, later renamed HTMS Tachin and HTMS Prasae.

On 20 October 1951, the ships were officially transferred at Yokosuka Naval Base, Japan, and later commissioned into the Royal Thai Navy on 29 October 1951, marking the beginning of their service in the Korean War.

HTMS Prasae began active operations on 11 January 1952, performing patrol missions, convoy escort duties, anti-mining operations, and naval gunfire support from Busan to Wonsan. Over more than two years, the ship completed 32 missions and approximately 300 days of operational deployment, demonstrating Thailand’s strong naval capability on an international battlefield.

After the armistice of the Korean War on 27 July 1954, the ship continued operations before returning to Thailand in 1955 and undergoing major repairs in Japan.

After decades of service, HTMS Prasae was decommissioned in 1994 due to its aging condition. It was later preserved by the local community of Pak Nam Prasae and transformed into an important tourist and historical landmark in Rayong Province.
