“Experience an antique teak house with a Living House atmosphere, savor contemporary Thai and Northern Thai cuisine made from local ingredients, and admire antique collections of a prominent family in Lampang amidst a lush garden. ”
Baan Kum-On Restaurant & Space is an antique house located in the historic Vieng Nuea area of Lampang Province. It comprises two wooden houses of historical value that reflect the way of life of people in the past. The first house, located inside, is a high-floored teak house built in 1928. It was originally owned by Luang Prakopwanakij (Sanan Samanasen), former Deputy Director-General of the Royal Forest Department, who later sold it to Mr. Kham Daeng Kreuananda, a government official of the Ministry of Justice of Burmese descent, and his wife, Mrs. Kham Lom Kreuananda, the daughter of Phraya Wongnanta Wong, a wealthy timber businessman in the Tha Ma-O community, to be used as a honeymoon home.
Stories from Generation to Generation:
The second house is located in front of the area, built around 1957. It is a two-story redwood house that was once used as a pharmacy and grocery store for the family in the past, reflecting the lifestyle of the Lampang community in the era when commerce was still tied to homes and families. Today, the descendants of the family have jointly preserved the two wooden houses in their original condition, naming the place "Baan Kum-On" in memory of Grandpa Kham Daeng and Grandma Kham Lom, the former owners of the house.
From an Ancient House to a Restaurant of Memories:
Today, Baan Kum-On has been renovated into a restaurant and creative space, while still preserving the original Lanna architectural structure. The interior is decorated with antique wooden furniture, photographs, and antique collections that reflect the lifestyle of Lampang people in the past, allowing visitors to experience the atmosphere as if traveling back in time to the era when teak houses were still a symbol of prosperity from the timber business of Lampang.
Taste of Food and Lanna Atmosphere:
The restaurant's menu focuses on meticulously prepared Thai and Northern Thai dishes using fresh, local ingredients. There are both local dishes such as Nam Prik Num, local curries, as well as flavorful Thai dishes. There are also drinks and desserts for those who want to relax in the atmosphere of an old wooden house. The restaurant area is divided into a cool wooden house zone and a terrace with a shady garden outside, making Baan Kum-On both a restaurant, a cafe, and a place of memory that beautifully reflects the charm of Lampang.
