“Khao Yai's sacred center of faith, featuring the world's largest Luang Pu Thuat statue, enshrined majestically in an open space amidst the beautiful nature of Khao Yai.”

Dhama Park Anachak Luang Pu Thuat is a large-scale Buddhist park project created with the unwavering determination of Phra Ajahn Pairoj Attaro, abbot of Wat Huai Mongkol in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province. It aims to be a center of faith for Buddhists from all over the world and a major cultural tourist attraction in Khao Yai and Nakhon Ratchasima Province.

Objectives and Background

This project was initiated to preserve and propagate the teachings of the Lord Buddha and to commemorate the great merit of Luang Pu Thuat, the revered monk who stepped on the sea and made it fresh water. The construction of the world's largest Buddha image is a spiritual landmark for the nation. The location was chosen ideally, amidst the pristine mountains and natural beauty of Khao Yai, creating a place of power and tranquility.

Key Architectural Elements

  • Large Buddha Image: This magnificent, tall, and imposing reinforced concrete sculpture faces south (or southeast) for auspiciousness. The design is modeled after the Luang Pu Thuat statue at Wat Chang Hai in Pattani Province but is much larger in size. The base of the statue is a pyramid-shaped structure with a long staircase leading up to the upper worship area, which offers panoramic views of Khao Yai.

  • Worship Area: The large area in front of and around the statue is designed to accommodate large numbers of pilgrims and is used for important religious ceremonies. It is decorated with teaching plaques and prayers.

  • Multi-purpose Building: Within the base of the statue are enshrined Buddha images and other sacred objects. It also serves as a place for meditation and exhibitions on the history of Luang Pu Thuat.

Sacred Objects and Auspicious Rituals

Buddha Park is not only home to the Luang Pu Thuat statue but also houses deities and sacred objects from Thai and Hindu beliefs, allowing visitors to pay homage to auspicious deities according to their various faiths.

  • Narayana on Garuda and Rahu: This prominently placed statue is believed to reverse fate, resolve obstacles, and enhance power and authority.

  • Young Ganesha (in the child form): This beautifully enshrined statue is believed to bestow blessings of success, creativity, and new beginnings.

  • Elephant Belly Slip Ceremony: Pilgrims commonly perform the ritual of slipping under the belly of a female elephant, believed to be highly auspicious, warding off misfortune and bringing good fortune, wealth, and prosperity.

Surrounding Landscape

The entire area is designated as a Sappaya Garden, designed to include:

  • A spacious courtyard and seasonal flower garden: Flowers such as sunflowers, cosmos, and other plants are planted in rotation, creating a refreshing atmosphere and providing beautiful photo opportunities.

  • Shady and Clean: The grounds, including restrooms, parking lots, and walkways, are meticulously maintained, providing visitors with a comfortable and truly peaceful atmosphere.

Buddha Park, the Kingdom of Luang Pu Thuat, is therefore more than just a temple. It is also a center for religious tourism and a source of Dharma learning, attracting tourists from all over the country to pay homage and experience the grandeur of this religious architecture.
