“ Pink–white Siam tulip fields, thrilling mist views at Pha Ham Hod cliff, and Sai Thong Waterfall where you can swim in a lush forest setting. ”

Sai Thong National Park is located in Chaiyaphum Province, covering several districts including Nong Bua Rawe, Thep Sathit, Phakdi Chumphon, and Nong Bua Daeng, with a total area of approximately 319 square kilometers. The landscape is characterized by the complex Phang Hoei mountain range, resulting in rich natural diversity, including dry dipterocarp forest, dry evergreen forest, and mixed deciduous forest in some areas.

The area experiences relatively cool weather from the rainy season into early winter, especially in the higher elevations and viewpoints where morning sea of mist frequently occurs. This makes it one of the most well-known mist-viewing destinations in lower northeastern Thailand.A key highlight of the park is “Thung Bua Sawan” or the Siam tulip fields, which bloom once a year during the rainy season, around June to August. The flowers come in pinkish-purple and white varieties and grow in large clusters across forest clearings. Visitors must follow designated nature trails, including wooden walkways and dirt paths, with a total walking distance of approximately 2–4 kilometers to protect the ecosystem.Another iconic attraction is “Pha Ham Hod,” a cliff viewpoint about 864 meters above sea level. It features a dramatic rock ledge extending into open space, making it both a scenic and adventurous viewpoint. It is popular for sunrise, sunset, and especially morning sea-of-mist views during late rainy to early winter seasons, when thick fog creates layered mountain scenery.

Inside the park is also “Sai Thong Waterfall,” a small to medium-sized waterfall cascading over natural rock layers. The water remains clear and cool year-round, surrounded by lush forest, making it suitable for relaxation, swimming, and picnicking. The ecosystem of Sai Thong National Park is considered highly intact, dominated by dry dipterocarp forest that supports a variety of wildlife such as deer, barking deer, wild birds, and numerous insect species, as well as native plants and medicinal herbs found in natural forest systems.Tourism in the park is managed under strict conservation principles, with clearly designated walking trails and controlled camping areas. Basic facilities are provided, including restrooms, a small service shop, and visitor information points to support tourists during the high season.

How to Get There
  • By car: From Bangkok, take Highway 1 (Phahonyothin) to Saraburi, then Highway 21 to Chai Badan District. Continue onto Highway 205 passing through Thep Sathit District. About 7 km before Nong Bua Rawe District, there will be a left turn into the national park, followed by another 7 km drive. Some sections of the road are steep and unpaved, so a 4WD vehicle or local pickup transport service is recommended.
  • By public transport: Take a bus or minivan from Bangkok to Chaiyaphum. Get off at Nong Bua Rawe District or Ban Khai junction, then hire a local taxi or chartered vehicle to the park.
