“ A peaceful and shady temple surrounded by nature, featuring simple local architecture. It serves as a spiritual center and hosts important community merit-making events. ”

Wat Dong Bang is a Buddhist temple under the Maha Nikaya sect, located in Dong I Chan Village, Non Suwan District, Buriram Province. Permission to establish the temple was granted in 1992, officially founded on June 23, 1994, and later received royal boundary consecration (Wisungkhamsima) on December 25, 1996.

The temple was built through the collective faith of local villagers, who contributed land and resources to construct various religious structures, making it a central place for spiritual activities. The temple covers an area of over 9 rai and includes key buildings such as a reinforced concrete ordination hall (ubosot), a sermon hall, a vihara, and monks’ residences. These structures reflect the simple yet faith-filled character of rural Isan temples.

Wat Dong Bang plays a vital role beyond religious ceremonies, serving as the “heart of the community” for the people of Dong I Chan. It is a venue for important traditional merit-making events such as Kathina and Pha Pa ceremonies, as well as Buddhist holy day activities, helping preserve local Isan culture.

In terms of meditation practice, the temple emphasizes providing and serene environment for mindfulness and Dharma study. It is suitable for both local residents and visitors seeking inner peace. The tranquil surroundings, shaded by natural greenery, support meditation and spiritual retreat.

Currently, the temple is led by Phra Khru Sutkantaporn (Kantapon Sirintharo), who serves as the abbot, overseeing monastic affairs, promoting education, and guiding the spiritual life of the community.

Overall, Wat Dong Bang represents a typical “Isan community temple”—simple in appearance yet deeply significant in terms of religion, culture, and the way of life of the local people.
