“Experience bamboo rafting while observing the lifestyle along the Li River, enjoy safe swimming in front of the concrete weir, relax in private bamboo pavilions by the water, and learn about the success of water management by the local community.”

Wang Pan Weir originated from the concerted efforts of people in Wiang Nong Long and Ban Hong districts. It was originally a rock-fill weir based on local wisdom, built to solve the problem of water shortages during the dry season, especially for longan orchards and agriculture in the community.

Later, the original weir was damaged, so the Royal Irrigation Department improved it into a reinforced concrete weir and developed the irrigation canal system to be more efficient, enabling sustainable water storage and management throughout the year.

Important Role in Community Security

Wang Pan Weir is the main source of water for consumption and agriculture, covering thousands of acres. It helps reduce water disputes, alleviate floods during the rainy season, supports the village water supply system, and strengthens economic stability, enabling people in the area to confidently pursue agriculture, reducing migration to work elsewhere.

Eco-Tourism Source Along the Li River

With the abundance of water and lush atmosphere, the community has jointly developed it into a slow-life tourist destination. The highlight is bamboo rafting for about 1 kilometer, passing through waterfront forests and lush orchards. Tourists can swim in front of the gently flowing weir and end with a meal of local food in bamboo pavilions by the water, where the wind blows cool all year round.

Wang Pan Weir is therefore more than just a tourist attraction, but a symbol of cooperation, water security, and the simple way of life of the Lamphun community.
