“Pay homage to “Chao Pho Bunmee,” the benevolent guardian deity of Kao Liao, admire the beautifully decorated Chinese shrine by the Ping River with intricate dragon motifs, and experience the powerful faith expressed through the long-standing annual deity procession festival.”

Chao Pho Kao Liao Shrine symbolizes the deep connection between the riverside community and the Ping River, reflecting the history of Chinese settlement and cultural heritage in Kao Liao District.

History and Belief

The main deity enshrined here is “Chao Pho Bunmee,” believed to protect river travelers, merchants, and local residents. Worshippers often pray for success in business, safety, and family well-being. When wishes are fulfilled, many return to express gratitude by offering Chinese opera performances or traditional offerings, preserving long-held beliefs.

Chinese Art and Architecture

The shrine is continuously maintained to preserve its elegance. It features dragon-wrapped pillars, colorful glazed tile decorations, and a ceremonial gate adorned with auspicious symbols. Designed according to feng shui principles, the shrine faces the Ping River to receive positive energy and prosperity.

Annual Deity Procession Festival

Held on a grand scale toward the end of the year, usually between November and December. The festival includes the procession of Chao Pho Bunmee through the market area, accompanied by Eng Kor processions, lion dances, and traditional Chinese opera performances. This important event reunites descendants of Kao Liao from across the country to honor their ancestral roots.
