“The province's largest reservoir featuring a long dam crest with stunning sunset views. A serene atmosphere surrounded by mountains, perfect for relaxing, picnicking, and camping”
Khlong Si Yat Reservoir is a large reservoir located in Tha Takiap District, Chachoengsao Province, in Khlong Takiap Subdistrict. It is considered one of the important water resource development projects in the lower Bang Pakong River basin, built to store water for irrigation, consumption, and to mitigate flooding in eastern Thailand. The project is under the supervision of the Royal Irrigation Department and has played a significant role in the agricultural sector of Chachoengsao and surrounding areas for a long time.
The reservoir's most striking feature is its vast body of water surrounded by mountains, forests, and the pristine natural beauty of Tha Takiap District. When the reservoir is full, the view of the water stretching before the green mountains is stunning. This is especially beautiful during the rainy season and the early winter months when the atmosphere is refreshing and there is a light mist in the mornings, making it a popular spot for nature lovers, locals, and landscape photographers.
A road runs along the reservoir's dam, allowing visitors to drive and park to enjoy the view. Many tourists enjoy relaxing, enjoying the cool breeze, and watching the sunset in the evening, as this area offers a clear view of the water and sky. During certain times of the year, strong winds blow throughout the day, making the weather cooler than in urban areas. There are also bridges and spots along the reservoir popular with locals for fishing, as the reservoir is considered a relatively abundant source of freshwater fish, especially carp, tilapia, and snakeheads. Therefore, groups of anglers often come to relax here on weekends.
Beyond its tourism role, Khlong Siyad Reservoir is a vital water resource infrastructure for the Eastern region. With a capacity of hundreds of millions of cubic meters, it serves as a primary water source for numerous agricultural areas and supports water supply systems in several districts of Chachoengsao and neighboring provinces. During the dry season, the water level of this reservoir is closely monitored because it affects water allocation for agriculture, water supply production, and maintaining the ecosystem in the Bang Pakong River basin.
Currently, Khlong Siyad Reservoir is becoming more popular among tourists who prefer simple, unhurried travel and closeness to nature. Many choose to picnic, bringing mats to eat by the reservoir, watching the sunset, or staying overnight in nearby areas of Tha Takiap district. Although the area around the reservoir doesn't have large commercial facilities like other famous tourist destinations, its charm lies in its tranquility, natural beauty, and the serene atmosphere of the Eastern forest, which retains its simplicity. It's ideal for those seeking to escape the hustle and bustle of big cities and experience nature authentically.
