“Marvel at over 10,000 giant Pacific sunflowers blooming brightly across the field, their golden petals turning beautifully toward the sunlight”

Natalee Farm Sunflower Field is considered one of the most notable creative tourism projects in Kosum Phisai District, Maha Sarakham Province. The project was initiated as part of a local municipal plan to transform unused land near the “Bueng Kui” reservoir into a new tourism landmark for the province, attracting visitors during the cool season while also stimulating the local community economy.Originally, the area around Bueng Kui was simply an open roadside space along the Maha Sarakham–Kosum Phisai route. Thanks to its wide landscape and proximity to a large natural reservoir, the municipality saw its tourism potential and began planting sunflowers during the late rainy and early winter season to add color and life to the area. Over time, the project expanded and eventually became the famous sunflower field seen today.

One of the field’s main highlights is the use of “Pacific Sunflowers,” a giant sunflower variety known for its large blooms, tall stems, strong structure, and vivid yellow petals. When fully grown, the flowers can reach above head height_, with blossoms almost as large as a person’s face, creating the feeling of walking through a massive golden sea of flowers. Each season, more than 10,000 sunflowers are planted across the lakeside area.Another unique feature that sets this destination apart from ordinary sunflower fields is its connection to the famous “Isan Navel” landmark, recognized as the geographical center of Northeastern Thailand. Geographers and local authorities identified the central point of the Northeast in Kosum Phisai District, Maha Sarakham Province. While the actual calculated center lies near Ban Khwao in Lao Subdistrict, a tourist landmark and symbolic sign were later built near Bueng Kui for easier public access and photo opportunities.

Bueng Kui itself also plays an important role in the local community as a public water reservoir and traditional fishing area for residents of Kosum Phisai. The atmosphere around the lake is peaceful and breezy throughout the day. In the mornings and evenings, locals often come here to relax, exercise, fish, and enjoy the sunset, making the area not only a seasonal tourist attraction but also a popular recreational space for the community.During the peak blooming season, the area becomes lively with photo booths, Isan-style decorative corners, cartoon gardens, and numerous local market stalls. Visitors can shop for OTOP products, silk fabrics, handwoven cotton textiles, local foods, and souvenirs directly from local villagers, helping generate income for surrounding communities during the tourism season.

The atmosphere of the sunflower field changes beautifully throughout the day. Morning is considered the best time to visit, as the sunflowers turn together toward the sunlight, creating a spectacular contrast between the bright yellow flowers and the blue sky. In the late afternoon, the golden sunset reflecting across Bueng Kui creates a romantic and scenic atmosphere ideal for photography.Although entry to the sunflower field is free, the local community continues to maintain and improve the area with walking paths, resting spots, parking spaces, and cleanliness management to accommodate large numbers of visitors each season. Today, the Bueng Kui Sunflower Field has become one of the most important winter landmarks in Maha Sarakham Province and a favorite check-in destination for photography lovers across Northeastern Thailand.
