“A breathtaking 360-degree viewpoint overlooking the Mekong River and rolling mountains. Ideal for sunrise and dense morning mist, with a scenic walking path locally known as the "Poor Man’s Skywalk."”

Phu Lam Duan, also known as Phu Sam Thong, is a natural tourist attraction situated along the Mekong River in Pak Chom District, Loei Province, approximately 40 kilometers from Chiang Khan District. It has quickly become popular for its 360-degree panoramic views, allowing visitors to see the winding Mekong River, river islands, and local settlements on both the Thai side (Pak Chom and Ban Khok Phai) and the Laos side.

During the winter season and after rainfall, visitors may witness a spectacular sea of mist covering the mountain ranges. The journey to the summit of Phu Lam Duan is unique: visitors must park their private vehicles at the Pak Chom District Highway office and take a local “E-Tak” vehicle along a relatively steep dirt path, which is part of the authentic local experience.

In addition to the stunning vistas, Phu Lam Duan is ideal for photography, especially of the sunrise and morning mist. Visitors who prefer adventure can also hike to the summit themselves (approximately 1.5 kilometers), experiencing the natural surroundings up close.

The summit area includes a viewing platform and safe walking paths, with several scenic spots perfect for photos, particularly during early morning when the sunrise and mist create magical scenery.

How to Get There
  • By private car: From Chiang Khan District, take the road along the Mekong River (Highway 211) toward Pak Chom for about 40 km. Approximately 3 km before reaching Pak Chom town, look for the Pak Chom District Highway office on the right to park your vehicle and continue to the summit via the local E-Tak service.
  • Climbing the mountain: Visitors must use the local E-Tak service waiting at the designated parking area at the Pak Chom District Highway office, as the path is steep and not suitable for regular vehicles.

Travel Tips

  • Dress warmly if visiting during the winter season.

  • Bring cash for the local E-Tak service.

  • If hiking independently (about 1.5 km), assess your physical readiness.

  • Bring a camera and photography equipment for capturing the views and mist.
