“ A pristine island sanctuary home to rare hornbills. Featuring crystal-clear waters, white sands, and a peaceful atmosphere, it is perfect for true nature-oriented relaxation. ”

Tapao Yai Island is located approximately 4 kilometers from the Phuket mainland, situated in Ao Makham near Cape Panwa. It is considered a hidden gem that has miraculously preserved its lush forest and coastal ecosystems. The island's most prominent feature is being a natural habitat for the Oriental "Pied Hornbill", a bird species that serves as one of the most significant indicators of forest health. These hornbills live in harmony with humans due to local conservation efforts that protect the large rainforest at the heart of the island, allowing visitors to see them flying or perched on branches at close range throughout the year.

The geography of Koh Tapao Yai consists of dense forests bordering a pristine beach approximately 400 meters long. The surrounding waters are exceptionally clear and emerald-green, harboring shallow-water coral reefs and seagrass beds that serve as vital feeding grounds for diverse marine life. Additionally, the island holds intriguing historical significance, having once been a strategic location. It features old colonial-style buildings dating back to the reign of King Rama V, which formerly housed one of the first telegraph stations on the Andaman coast, reflecting the island's historical importance in maritime communication and navigation.

Currently, Koh Tapao Yai has been developed into a sustainable ecotourism destination. Primary activities focus on close encounters with nature, such as walking through nature trails to learn about the life cycle of hornbills and indigenous plant species, or snorkeling directly off the beach where clownfish and staghorn corals are easily found. Kayaking to explore the rocky coastlines is also a popular way to admire the island's landscape. With management practices that limit tourist numbers and ban noisy motorized water sports, Koh Tapao Yai offers a truly tranquil escape, characterized by the unique calls of hornbills and the gentle sound of waves lapping the shore.
