“Thriving shallow-water coral reef close to the shore, a tranquil and private atmosphere, beautiful sunset views, and chilled-out bohemian-style beach bars.”
Haad Chao Phao is a beach on the west coast of Koh Phangan, approximately 500 meters long. It is a curved, sheltered bay, resulting in relatively calm waves throughout the year. The sea water is clear turquoise blue, and the gently sloping sandy beach is perfect for swimming and leisurely relaxation.
Beach Structure and Water Conditions
The beach features a mix of sand, rocks, and coral, particularly on the right side of the bay (when facing the sea), which boasts the densest and most vibrant coral reef. The water is clear and ideal for swimming during high tide. During low tide, the coral reef becomes more visible, so caution is advised when walking.
Snorkeling Spot
This is considered one of the best beachfront snorkeling spots on Koh Phangan. You can find coral formations, brain coral, and various types of marine fish, such as parrotfish, damselfish, and even clownfish in some areas. It is suitable for both beginners and experienced snorkelers.
Atmosphere and Lifestyle
The overall atmosphere is peaceful and uncrowded, surrounded by bungalows, restaurants, and small bohemian-style beach bars, creating a welcoming and laid-back vibe, ideal for slow living, yoga, and long-term relaxation.
Best Time to Visit
The morning is ideal for swimming and snorkeling as the water is clear and sunlight penetrates well underwater. The evening is the highlight, with the sun setting directly over the ocean horizon, casting golden light on the water and creating a romantic and relaxing atmosphere.
Who is it suitable for?
Suitable for couples, solo travelers, and those looking to escape the hustle and bustle, as well as snorkelers who want an easy snorkeling spot near the shore.
