“A shaded coastal road lined with towering pine trees forming a scenic natural tunnel, offering a beautiful photographic backdrop and a relaxing atmosphere.”
Suan Son Beach is a famous beach in Rayong Province that stands out from other beaches in the Eastern region. It's characterized by a line of large casuarina trees lining the coast for several kilometers, creating a shady, cool, and tranquil atmosphere throughout the day. The name "Suan Son Beach" comes from the dense growth of casuarina trees along the beach, which has become an iconic image of the place. Many tourists enjoy driving along the coastal road to admire the pine trees curving towards each other like a natural tunnel, especially during sunset when sunlight filters through the branches, creating beautiful beams of light – a popular photo spot in Rayong.
Suan Son Beach is a long, continuous sandy beach with fine, light brown sand mixed with some seashells. The water is relatively shallow near the shore, and the beach slopes gently, making it ideal for relaxing by the sea, swimming, or family activities when the waves are calm. Although Suan Son Beach is not far from popular tourist destinations like Ban Phe and Koh Samet, its atmosphere is more peaceful than many other popular beaches. This makes it a favorite spot for tourists seeking a slow-paced vacation, where they can enjoy the sea breeze, read a book, spread out a mat for a meal, or simply relax during holidays without the crowds.
Along the beach, you'll find scattered local seafood restaurants, drink stalls, and relaxation spots. Many are nestled under the pine trees, offering shaded dining areas with stunning ocean views. The menus mainly feature fresh seafood from local fishermen, such as grilled squid, grilled prawns, steamed blue crab, and other Rayong-style seafood dishes. Nearby, there are also small accommodations, resorts, and beachfront bungalows suitable for tourists seeking overnight stays to experience the tranquil coastal atmosphere in the morning and evening.
Another significant charm of Suan Son Beach is its relatively well-preserved natural beauty compared to many commercially-oriented beaches in the eastern region. Tourists can observe the traditional way of life of local fishermen, small fishing boats, and coastal activities. Some areas of the beach offer perfect spots for fishing, relaxing, or watching the sunset over the Gulf of Thailand, especially during the clear summer months when the sky is bright and the sea is vibrant. The atmosphere of Suan Son Beach is simple, relaxing, and distinctly different from beaches filled with water activities or large entertainment venues.
The coastal road is also one of the most popular scenic drives in Rayong province. The long line of pine trees on both sides creates a natural tunnel-like effect. Many tourists enjoy cycling, jogging, or strolling along the road in the mornings and evenings due to the cool temperatures and shade provided by the trees. Many beachfront areas are also suitable for informal camping during certain periods, but it's always best to check the area regulations before booking to help maintain the cleanliness and natural beauty of the beach for future generations.
