“Kad Dara Dhevi showcases exquisite Lanna-inspired architecture blended with Tai cultural influences, making it a picturesque spot for photography. It is also home to authentic Northern Thai cuisine, handmade crafts, and unique local products that represent the cultural essence of the region.”
Kad Dara Dhevi, originally part of the renowned Oriental Dara Dhevi Hotel, has been revitalized and relaunched as a new cultural landmark of Lanna. Its mission is to boost local economic development by creating a market that blends traditional charm with modern creativity.
The Charm of Architecture
The market area stands out with distinctive architectural designs inspired by various regional styles including Traditional Lanna, Lan Xang, Xishuangbanna, and Mandalay (Myanmar). These stunning structures transport visitors back to the glorious past of Lanna civilization while serving as a beautiful backdrop for photography.
Products and Activities
Kad Dara Dhevi brings together unique products and cultural services across various zones, including:
Northern food stalls offering signature dishes such as Khao Soi, Hang Lay Curry, Sai Ua (spicy sausage), Nam Prik Noom, and traditional desserts;
Handicraft demonstrations and artisan stalls featuring lantern making, wood carving, handwoven textiles, silverware, and accessories;
Clothing and souvenir shops with traditional-inspired items;
and an open area that hosts cultural performances and outdoor activities, enhancing the lively and memorable atmosphere.
A Grand Revival
Following the closure of the original hotel, Kad Dara Dhevi has returned in a new form through collaboration between local authorities and property management. This revival aims to uplift the community by supporting local products and empowering Chiang Mai’s creative economy.
