“Witness the wonder of the blooming paper flowers along the stone cliffs, take stunning photos at the cliff viewpoints overlooking vast landscapes, and experience the freshness of a fully restored forest.”
The Forest Development Project under the Royal Initiative at Phu Hin Rong Kla is a must-visit destination within the national park. In the past, this area was a red zone with forest land severely degraded by shifting cultivation. However, through the Royal Initiative of King Rama IX, aimed at restoring the forest and improving the quality of life for the hill tribe people, it has transformed into a lush natural attraction and learning center. The project area features nature trails and beautifully decorated resting spots that blend seamlessly with the forest and large rock formations.
The main highlight that attracts tourists is the Strawflower Field, which displays a vibrant array of colorspink, white, yellow, and orange along the stone cliffs. The unique feature of these flowers is their durability; even when exposed to sunlight or picked, the petals remain firm and colorful, feeling like paper to the touch. When these multicolored flowers bloom along the cliffside, they create an exotic and beautiful scene that is a popular photography spot, offering an international-like atmosphere, especially during the peak of winter.
Beyond the flower fields, the project boasts several scenic cliff viewpoints that are both beautiful and breathtaking, such as Pha Phop Rak, Pha Salat Rak, Pha Rak Yuen Yong, and Pha Khu Rak. At each point, visitors can enjoy views of the lush green mountains layered beautifully in the distance. On some days, a sea of mist floats low through the valleys. The area is also filled with various winter flora, moss, and ferns growing among the rocks, reflecting the success of restoring nature back to life.
A visit here is more than just seeing beautiful flowers it is about absorbing the importance of nature conservation and the sustainable coexistence between humans and forests. The tranquil atmosphere, the cold breeze sweeping across the cliffs, and the resilient beauty of the strawflowers provide both a peaceful retreat and inspiration from the stories of the Royal Initiative.
