“The highest peak of Phu Thap Boek with year-round cold weather, stunning panoramic views of Route Three curves, vast cabbage fields, and spectacular 360-degree seas of mist.”
Nuai Thap Boek is a national park ranger station under the supervision of Phu Hin Rong Kla National Park. Located at the high peak of Phu Thap Boek in Lom Kao District, Phetchabun Province, this area is considered one of the most famous natural destinations in northern and upper central Thailand. At an altitude of approximately 1,700 meters above sea level, the climate is cool and pleasant year-round. Especially during the rainy and winter seasons, temperatures can drop, causing thick fog to blanket the valleys, creating a large sea of fog that many tourists come to witness in the early morning.
The topography of Nuai Thap Boek consists of complex, high mountain ridges connecting to the Phetchabun mountain range and the Phu Hin Rong Kla National Park area. The surrounding area offers almost a 360-degree panoramic view of the mountains. On clear days, tourists can see layers of overlapping mountains stretching as far as the eye can see. The golden light of sunrise slowly pierces through the fog above the valleys, creating a tranquil and distinctive atmosphere, earning it recognition as one of the most beautiful sea of fog viewpoints in Thailand.
The area around Nuai Thap Boek is closely connected to the lifestyle of the Hmong hill tribe people who have lived in the area for decades. The Hmong community on Phu Thap Boek plays a significant role in developing agricultural areas on the high mountains. In particular, cabbage cultivation has become an iconic image of Phu Thap Boek. Tourists visiting this area will find large cabbage fields beautifully cascading down the mountainsides, a unique feature that distinguishes it from other mountain tourist destinations in Thailand. Besides cabbage, locals also cultivate various cold-climate crops such as carrots, lettuce, and some temperate fruits when the weather is suitable.
Thap Boek Ranger Station is also a popular campsite for nature lovers and camping enthusiasts. The campsites are located in prime viewpoints, offering stunning views of the sea of mist and sunrise. The nighttime atmosphere is relatively quiet and the temperature is significantly lower than in the lowlands. During the winter months, strong winds and freezing temperatures can occur, leading to heavy dew. Many tourists prefer to stay overnight to experience the cold weather and enjoy the night sky, where stars are clearly visible due to low light pollution.
The route to Thap Boek Ranger Station is another highlight of the trip. Road 2331, connecting Lom Kao District to the summit of Phu Thap Boek, is a steep mountain road with numerous curves, especially near the viewpoint at Curve No. 3, a popular spot for taking high-angle photos of the winding road along the mountainside. Driving on this route requires caution. However, it is widely recognized as one of the most beautiful mountain scenic routes in Phetchabun province. Along the way, you'll find viewpoints, cafes, local restaurants, and shops selling agricultural products from the villagers scattered throughout the route.
During the tourist season, especially between July and January, Phu Thap Boek sees a large number of tourists coming to experience the sea of mist and the cold weather. This makes the campsites and accommodations on Phu Thap Boek quite busy. Most tourists prefer to arrive in the evening to stay overnight and wait to see the sea of mist in the morning. However, even though the area has basic facilities such as restrooms, parking, and shops, the terrain is still high in mountains. Therefore, tourists should prepare warm clothing, rain gear, and check the weather forecast before traveling for safety and convenience.
