“The confluence of a waterfall and the sea, along with royal monograms inscribed on boulders, amidst a lush rainforest, and a bay-shaped beach surrounded by large rocks.”
Haad Than Sadet (Haad Sadet Beach) is a beach that uniquely combines natural and historical value. It is located in Than Sadet-Koh Phangan National Park on the east side of the island. This area still maintains a lush rainforest and a complete coastal ecosystem.
The uniqueness of the beach: A stream from Than Sadet Waterfall flows directly into the sea, creating a beautiful and rare natural spectacle. The beach is a small bay, flanked by large granite boulders, fine yellow sand, and clear, deep blue seawater.
Historical Significance: Haad Than Sadet is the place where King Rama V visited 14 times and inscribed his royal monogram on a rock, as well as other monarchs, making this area culturally and spiritually important.
Activities and Atmosphere: Tourists can walk along the stream to see the multi-tiered waterfall, each level filled with rare rainforest plants and uniquely shaped rocks. It is suitable for hiking, swimming in the waterfall, and relaxing on the beach all in one day.
Nature and Tranquility: The surrounding atmosphere is quiet and peaceful, with no large buildings, making it ideal for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle and experience pure nature, especially after the rainy season when the waterfall is full and particularly beautiful.
Fauna and Flora: The rainforest area is home to many species of wild birds, such as hornbills and hill mynas, as well as small animals such as lizards, squirrels, and forest insects. Native plants such as bamboo, dwarf areca palms, teak trees, and Hopea odorata trees make it a comprehensive natural study area.
Great photo spots: The point where the waterfall flows into the sea, the rock with the royal monogram inscription, the hiking trail above the waterfall, and the sandy beach surrounded by rocks.
How to Get There
- Car/Motorcycle: From Thong Sala Pier, take the cross-mountain route east (the route to Thong Nai Pan) for approximately 12 km, taking 30–40 minutes. The road is steep and winding, so drive carefully.
- Longtail boat: You can charter a boat from Haad Rin or Haad Thong Nai Pan to access the beach by sea. It is ideal for viewing the beautiful cliffs and coastline.
