“A natural waterfall cascading directly from the cliff into the sea, distinguished by the initials of King Rama V and large granite boulders, in a tranquil atmosphere cut off from the outside world.”
Than Prapat Waterfall Beach is one of Koh Phangan's most hidden and pristine destinations. Located within the Than Sadet-Koh Phangan National Park, it is a small bay surrounded by steep mountains and rainforest, creating a rich ecosystem with tropical plants and small wildlife. The sea in the bay is deep blue and clear, with no communities or activities to disturb it.
Unique Natural Feature
The main attraction here is “a waterfall flowing directly into the sea.” The stream from the island's mountains flows over granite rocks before falling onto the beach. Especially during the rainy and winter seasons, the water flows strongly and continuously, creating a beautiful natural curtain against the sea.
Large granite boulders scattered throughout the bay are the result of long-term natural erosion, creating unusual shapes that are both unique geographical features and prominent photo opportunities.
Ecosystem and Surrounding Nature
The surrounding area is a rainforest with high biodiversity, featuring tropical plants, ferns, moss, and small animals such as freshwater crabs, lizards, and various forest birds. The natural sounds of waterfalls, waves, and wind create a peaceful atmosphere, perfect for relaxation and connecting with nature.
Traces of History
Near the waterfall, on a boulder, are the initials “Ch.P.R. 117” of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) from his royal visit in R.S. 117, which is an important historical evidence and reflects the connection of the Thai royal family with Koh Phangan.
