“The highlight of Doi Tapang is that it is an Unseen Thailand attraction in the South, where visitors can witness the Sea of Mist all year round (depending on the weather).”

Doi Tapang is located on a high mountaintop in Khao Thalu Subdistrict, Sawi District, Chumphon. It is considered one of the most stunning natural tourist attractions in the South. With an elevation of approximately 500 meters above sea level, Doi Tapang serves as a scenic viewpoint offering spectacular sights of layered limestone mountains stretching into the distance.

In the early morning, when conditions are favorable, a thick Sea of Mist often blankets the valleys. As the morning sunlight hits, the Sea of Mist turns golden—an iconic scene that attracts countless visitors. The landscape here is often compared to the "Avatar Mountains" in China.

To enjoy the sunrise and Sea of Mist, visitors should reach the mountain summit before 06:00. There is a dedicated viewpoint and an extended observation deck for capturing 360-degree panoramic photos.

A camping area is available at the top of the mountain, equipped with restrooms and electricity, making it convenient for those wishing to stay overnight and experience the morning Sea of Mist.

At the foot of the mountain lies a plantation of high-quality coffee, known as "Khao Thalu Coffee," where visitors can taste and purchase coffee products as souvenirs.

How to Get There
  • Mountain Access: From Sawi District, take Highway 41 toward Thung Tako District, then turn right at the Khao Pip intersection. Continue toward Khao Thalu Subdistrict until you reach the parking area and shuttle service point. Because the road up the mountain is unpaved, steep, and rugged, regular private cars cannot drive up. Visitors must use the local 4x4 vehicle shuttle service, available for round-trip hire.

Travel Tips
  • The best time to see the Sea of Mist is early morning before 06:00.

  • The mountain can be chilly in the morning—bring a jacket.

  • There are camping areas and homestays nearby for overnight stays.

Entrance Fee:

  • There is no entrance fee for the mountain, but there is a charge for the shuttle truck up and down the mountain (approximately 600–1,000 THB per vehicle), plus camping fees for those who stay overnight.

Opening Hours:

  • Open 24 hours, but the best time for viewing the sunrise and Sea of Mist is from 05:00 onward.
