“A secluded bay with clear emerald water, surrounded by nature. Abundant snorkeling spots right off the beach. A tranquil and private atmosphere with a stunning viewpoint of Koh Raham.”
Haad Son, also known as Secret Beach, is a hidden beach on the west coast of Koh Phangan tucked away behind lush green hills. The bay is small to medium-sized, creating relatively calm waves throughout the year. The sand is fine, soft, creamy white, and comfortable to walk on, and the seawater is exceptionally clear. Especially during high tide, you can clearly see shades of blue ranging from turquoise to deep blue.
In terms of terrain, the area around the bay consists of granite boulders interspersed with shallow coral reefs, which are home to marine life such as parrotfish, butterflyfish, lionfish, and small benthic animals, making it ideal for snorkeling. In particular, the right side of the beach and near the rocky outcrops are more biodiverse than other areas. The water gradually deepens, making it suitable for both beginners and those who want to explore underwater up close to nature.
One of its unique features is “Koh Raham”, which is a bar, restaurant, and viewpoint built with wooden structures extending onto the rocks in the sea. It stands out with wooden bridges, hammock nets, and 180-degree sea view photo opportunities. In the evening, this area becomes a popular sunset viewing spot. The golden light reflecting off the water creates a romantic and peaceful atmosphere.
In terms of atmosphere, Haad Son maintains a high level of privacy compared to other popular beaches on Koh Phangan. There are no jet skis or noisy activities, making it ideal for a slow-life vacation such as sunbathing, reading a book, or meditating by the sea. There are also small accommodations and boutique-style cafes scattered around, emphasizing harmony with nature.
The best time to visit is from December to April, when the west coast sea is calm, the water is clear, and the sky is clear, ideal for snorkeling and photography. During the monsoon season (approximately October – November), there may be stronger waves and murkier water. Check the weather before traveling.
With its landscape, underwater ecosystem, and peaceful atmosphere, Haad Son is one of Koh Phangan's hidden gems, ideal for tourists looking for a quality vacation experience amidst pristine and uncrowded nature.
