“Siamese Fighting Fish Museum, Bang Kachao, featuring a variety of Thai betta fish in multiple color strains and other freshwater fish species.”

The Siamese Fighting Fish Museum is an ecological and cultural learning center established with the concept of “conserving Thai betta fish as a national aquatic species.” It focuses on biological knowledge, breeding art, and the cultural significance of betta fish in Thai society over a long period of time.Inside the museum, a wide variety of betta fish are exhibited, including wild species found in Thailand’s wetlands such as Mahachai betta, Isan betta, and rice-field betta, as well as ornamental varieties developed by breeders. These selectively bred fish are distinguished by their vibrant colors, fins, and diverse forms, while still preserving the unique identity of Thai betta fish.

The exhibition is designed as a “Living Exhibition,” using systematically arranged transparent tanks that allow visitors to observe natural behaviors such as fin flaring, territorial displays, and environmental adaptation. This approach provides a deeper understanding of the fish compared to static displays. The main exhibition building features a modern Thai architectural style, using wood and natural tones to blend harmoniously with the Bang Kachao environment, often referred to as the “green lung of Bangkok.” The surrounding area is developed into a native plant garden with elevated wooden walkways, allowing visitors to walk through a shaded natural environment while exploring the exhibition. In addition to the fish displays, the museum also offers learning areas about local wisdom, including the history of betta fish keeping in Thailand, their role in Thai culture, traditional folk practices, beliefs, and the development of the ornamental fish industry that supports local livelihoods.

Within the site, there is also a traditional Thai house zone that recreates local canal-side lifestyles, featuring a Thai kitchen, herbal garden, and traditional wooden house structures. This allows visitors to experience cultural heritage alongside nature in a complete and immersive way.Another highlight is a small café area surrounded by nature, ideal for relaxing after visiting the museum. There are also seating areas in the garden where visitors can enjoy peaceful views of trees and canals in Bang Kachao.

Overall, the Siamese Fighting Fish Museum is not just an exhibition space for fish, but a holistic learning center that integrates science, culture, and community lifestyle. It is suitable for visitors of all ages, especially those interested in nature, aquatic life, and eco-cultural tourism near Bangkok.
