Giant Rain Tree Kanchanaburi, also known as the “Giant Monkey Pod Tree,” is a massive rain tree over 100 years old located in Kanchanaburi Province, Thailand. It has become one of the most famous natural landmarks in the region due to its remarkable size, unique shape, and well-preserved condition in an open natural environment that supports its expansive canopy growth. One of its most distinctive features is its wide, symmetrical canopy that spreads in a near-perfect circular shape around the main trunk. Numerous branches extend horizontally, forming a massive umbrella-like crown. The tree’s shade covers an area of approximately one rai, providing cool and comfortable shelter throughout the day. Its trunk is so large that it requires several people to encircle it, while its extensive lateral root system provides strong stability to support the enormous canopy.

The surrounding environment consists of open grassy land mixed with soft soil, which is ideal for the growth of rain trees that require full sunlight and wide space to expand their branches. Under the canopy, temperatures are noticeably cooler than the surrounding area, creating a unique microclimate with higher humidity and refreshing shade, making it ideal for relaxation and photography.The site is managed under military supervision, ensuring systematic conservation and maintenance of the tree. An elevated wooden walkway has been constructed around the base to protect the shallow, widespread root system from damage while allowing visitors to view the tree from all angles without harming the environment.

The area is also well organized for tourism, featuring parking spaces, local shops, beverage stalls, and resting areas for visitors. • By car: From Kanchanaburi city center, take Highway 3209 toward Dan Makham Tia District. Then turn onto Highway 3429 following signs for “Giant Rain Tree.” Continue into the Military Animal and Agricultural Division area. The total distance is approximately 15–18 km. The road is in good condition and easily accessible by all types of vehicles.
