“A vast park blending traditional Japanese and Western-style gardens, known as one of Tokyo’s top cherry blossom viewing spots.”
Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden is one of Tokyo’s most beautiful and peaceful parks. Originally constructed as an imperial garden during the Meiji Era, it was opened to the public after World War II. Covering over 58 hectares with more than 10,000 trees—including about 1,000 cherry trees that bloom spectacularly from late March to mid-April—it’s a must-visit for nature lovers.
The park features three distinct styles:
-
Japanese Traditional Garden: With serene ponds, wooden teahouses, and stone bridges.
-
French Formal Garden: Known for its colorful flowerbeds and symmetrically trimmed trees.
-
English Landscape Garden: A wide, open lawn ideal for picnics and relaxation.
Visitors can also explore the Greenhouse, which houses tropical and subtropical plants from around the world, offering a fascinating contrast to the outdoor scenery.
