The mosque was designed by Arthur Benison Hubback and built in 1909. Built near the Klang and Kambak rivers, the mosque has two minarets and three domes. The dome, the largest of which is 21.3 meters tall. Near the mosque is the Masjid Jamek Light Rail Station serving the Kelana Jaya, Sri Petaling and Ampang lines. Chinatown and Little India. Nearby the station is Merdeka Square.
The word "Jamek" in Malay has the same meaning as in Arabic, referring to a place where people come to worship and locals call the mosque "Jamek". "Friday Mosque"
