Wat Mahathat Laem Sak is a revered Buddhist temple and a spiritual center for the local community in Laem Sak, Ao Luek District, Krabi. Apart from being a place of worship, it has become a popular cultural attraction due to its stunning architecture and serene atmosphere.

The temple’s most outstanding feature is its large white chedi, built in elegant Sri Lankan style. The chedi measures approximately 45 meters wide, 45 meters long, and 40–45 meters tall. Inside, it houses the sacred relics of the Buddha, graciously bestowed by Somdet Phra Nyanasamvara, the late Supreme Patriarch of Thailand, for Buddhist devotees to pay their respects.

At the top of the chedi lies a 360-degree viewpoint, offering sweeping views of the Laem Sak Peninsula, the turquoise Andaman Sea, and the lush limestone mountains of Phang Nga Bay. The scenery is especially captivating during sunrise and sunset.

Originally, this site was known as Kruan Wiwekaram Monastery, before being officially established as a royal Buddhist temple under the Dhammayuttika Nikaya sect.

How to Get There

• From Krabi Town, take Highway No. 4039 toward Ao Luek, then continue along the same route for approximately 40 kilometers. Follow the signs leading to Wat Mahathat Laem Sak. Traveling by private car is the most convenient option.

• Visit early in the morning or late afternoon to enjoy the best light for photography and panoramic views. Dress respectfully when entering temple grounds, and remove your shoes before ascending the chedi.
