“An ancient wooden community created by the cooperation of the municipality and local residents to revive the ancient Chinese way of life, turning it into a unique cultural market.”
Chak Ngaew Ancient Chinese Market is located in Huai Yai Subdistrict, near Pattaya. It is an ancient Chinese community with an interesting history. The name "Chak Ngaew" has a unique origin, derived from the word "Cha-Ngae." In the past, this was a large agricultural community with tens of thousands of acres of cultivation area, attracting people from other regions to seek fortune and work. This led to it becoming a trade center packed with shops and restaurants before gradually declining over time and returning to life once again through the cooperation of the people in the community.
The charm that attracts visitors is the preservation of the ancient wooden shophouses lined up along both sides of the street. Each house is beautifully decorated with red paper lanterns. Throughout the route, there are antique shops and collectibles to view, interspersed with actual residences, allowing visitors to feel the sincerity and a retro atmosphere that cannot be found in modern tourist attractions
The major highlight is the wide variety of food, available for takeout or dining inside traditionally decorated shops. Must-try signature menus include flavorful Jaeng Ron, Rong Tiaw Braised Duck Noodles which offers an atmosphere like an ancient Chinese movie, and Kuey Teow Pak Mor (steamed rice-skin dumplings) made fresh, as well as many other Thai-Chinese desserts and snacks with recipes passed down through generations.Currently, this market is not just a place to sell goods, but a space showing the pride of the villagers who work together to preserve their Chinese community identity
