“Brewery area with a long history dated baced from the Edo period (1603-1868)”

In addition to Nada in Hyogo Prefecture and Fushimi in Kyoto, Saijo Area in Higashihiroshima City is one of the most famous brewing areas in Japan.

Saijo Area or Saijo Sakagura Street is riched with a long history that flourished during the Edo period (1603-1868). It was blessed with high-quality water and sake rice suitable for sake brewing, and developed to the point where it is called the "Saijo, the town of sake”.

Even today, there are seven sake breweries in the vicinity of JR Saijo Station, some of which offer tours, tastings, and sales. There are also restaurants that serve"Bishu nabe (A hot pot dish of meat and vegetables cooked with sake, salt and pepper)”, and cafes converted from sake breweries, so you can experience Saijo, the town of sake, in various ways.

The charming townscape is also full of flavor. The scenery made of sake breweries with the red-brick chimneys, roofs, and white-wall and namako-wall (traditional Japanese wall pattern) are photogenic no matter where you take it!
