“ A museum that tells the story of Nonthaburi Province, preserving it for future generations as a place of learning and an eco-cultural tourism destination. ”

Nonthaburi Province Museum is located in the area of the former Nonthaburi Provincial Hall, which was originally built during the reign of King Rama VI as the provincial government center and administrative office. Later, when the government offices were moved to a new building, this historic site was preserved and transformed into a museum to conserve and present the history of Nonthaburi from the past to the present. The museum building is a distinctive example of traditional Thai-inspired wooden architecture. It consists of a complex of seven two-story teak buildings connected by covered walkways. The structures are raised on stilts to protect against flooding and feature hip roofs designed to improve ventilation. The entire complex is primarily constructed from solid teak wood, giving it both strength and the elegant charm of traditional Thai wooden architecture.

Inside the museum, the exhibitions are divided into several zones. The first zone presents the history of Nonthaburi, highlighting early settlements along the Chao Phraya River, traditional agricultural lifestyles, and the province’s famous agricultural heritage, especially the renowned Nonthaburi durian. Another zone focuses on the cultural wisdom of Koh Kret pottery, showcasing the Mon community and their traditional ceramic craftsmanship, from clay preparation and shaping to firing and decorative techniques that continue to be preserved today.

There are also exhibitions on local riverside lifestyles and the economic development of communities along the Chao Phraya River, illustrating river trade, floating markets, and the transformation from an agricultural society to a modern urban area. In addition, a royal tribute and historical events zone highlights important milestones in the development of Nonthaburi Province across different eras. The museum is located along the Chao Phraya River, providing a cool breeze throughout the day and a scenic riverside atmosphere. It is especially beautiful in the late afternoon and sunset hours when the light enhances the charm of the wooden architecture, making it an ideal place for walking and photography.Nonthaburi Province Museum is therefore not only a tourist attraction but also an important cultural and historical learning center. It plays a key role in preserving local identity and connecting the heritage of the old town with the modern city in a meaningful way.
