Luang Pho Pu Lub Shrine is a sacred site deeply respected by locals in Nong Bua Lamphu and nearby provinces. According to local beliefs, people often follow the principle: “Do not disrespect what you do not believe in.”

Travelers on the Nong Bua Lamphu–Udon Thani Highway, about 4 kilometers from the city, will notice three Thai-style Isan pavilions covered with large red metal roofs, located along the roadside with a sign reading “Pu Lub Shrine.”

The shrine’s exact founding date is unknown, but historical studies reveal that Pu Lub was a powerful spiritual and martial figure, serving as a chief warrior under Phra Wo–Phra Ta, the local rulers of the area, which was once a town under the control of Vientiane.

The current location was once a city gate and checkpoint. Travelers passing by often pay respects or honk their horns to show reverence, believing in the shrine’s protective powers. No one dares to disrespect it.

Locals and nearby residents come to make offerings and request blessings for safety, travel, and success. Even local politicians visiting during elections have historically come to fulfill vows with various ceremonial offerings. Some local traditions suggest that including something you personally like, such as a specific style of Mor Lam performance, may help ensure the request is granted.

Historically, Pu Lub was a real person who lived approximately 200 years ago (around 1807–1847). He was a strong, brave, and educated man with martial skills, chosen to lead his village. After conflicts with neighboring villages, he relocated his family first to Ban Lamphu in the current city area, then later to Ban Non Pa Wan (Suwan Khuha District).

Beliefs about Pu Lub are closely connected to Phra Wo–Phra Ta. He is revered as a spiritual guardian of the region, from Phu Phan to the Laotian mountains, with annual merit-making ceremonies still held today. Visitors continue to honor and worship at the shrine for safety and spiritual blessings.

• By car: From Nong Bua Lamphu city, take Highway 210 (Nong Bua Lamphu–Udon Thani) for about 10 km, then turn right onto Non Than Road. The shrine is on the right-hand side.

• By bus: Take a bus to Nong Bua Lamphu city, then continue by local songthaew or motorcycle taxi to the shrine.
